Wanna Know What I Heard?

When polled, the number two biggest fear of Americans was death.

Makes sense, right?

But guess what was number one...speaking in public.

People, this is sad. I mean, really? We're a world of online communication with generations known simply for its texting obsession. Seems to me that everyone has something to say, but can we talk about it when the reactions of our listeners are apparent on their faces? Of course not. We can blast the internet with information about ourselves, about our lives, about our secrets, about our thoughts, beliefs, and even with our every act. It makes stalking so much easier now. There's even a common day, accepted term for it now: "Facebook stalking."

Yet, if it's coming out of our mouths instead of a keyboard, and when our looks are judged instead of our blog layouts, is it really easier to face death?

Do you want to be heard? Do you want to be taken seriously? Because you are not on the right path for having any sense of valid pride. You're scared. In fact, you're terrified. If God said, "you must stand behind that podium, and tell these people what your favorite color is or I'll let this dragon feast on your flesh," would your reaction be to just accept the second scenario?

Pathetic. What I say here, I can say to someone's face. It's that simple. It's also how I keep from spewing confidential information about myself or giving people the wrong impression. Of death I am not afraid. Maybe the event which leads to my death with be a little scary, but even then would I not consider public speaking a threat to my sanity.

No wonder we vote for a president who speaks well. We vote for our idol, and that idol has to be the one with the best use of rhetoric.
